Enjoy Ohio!
Spring is here and summer months are right around the corner, which has many people considering family vacations and road trips. Over the weekend I heard of many trips outside the Great State of Ohio – Denver, San Diego, Pennsylvania, Florida, were all on the ballot. With a road trip already planned to NY for a friend’s wedding, my summer budget is quickly being dipped into. So what is there to do in Ohio that keeps money in the bank yet still gives room for adventure?
Here is a quick list of local favorite to spark some stay-cation imagination
1. Cedar Point – The simple days of Geauga Lake are long gone, luckily CLE is close to the Roller Coaster Capital of the World! Check here for online deals like Spring Fever. Park Opens May 15.
2. CLE and Lake Metro Parks – We are so lucky to be surrounded by such beautiful parks! Be prepared any time by keeping a blanket, frisbee, mitt and baseball in the trunk of your car. Or grab a few friends, head to the grocery store and get ready to grill out. Charcoal, foil, matches, burgers, hot dogs, salad and chips is all you need to have a great picnic. Don’t forget the Heinz Ketchup and Stadium Mustard. Also visit the website links to find out what classes and activities are featured in your area.
3. Fishing – You may now know it, but I grew up on this sport (that and horseshoes). Lake Erie and the river systems throughout Cuyahoga and Lake counties allow for great fishing. If your ever in the mood to ponder life, pick up a pole, buy some bait and throw on your waders.
4. Beach Time – The beaches of Lake Erie offer warm sand and fun trails. If you’re on the West Side head to Huntington Beach, Edgewater or the beaches close to Cedar Point. For those on the East Side take your pick from Geneva State Park, Fairport Harbor and Headlands.
5. Make it a Game Night – In recognition of the Indians Home Opener today, plan for a trip to Progressive field to see Grady and the boys. Make the most of it by hitting the batting cages before the game and brining in your own peanuts and cracker jacks. If you’re looking for something a little closer to home, head to see the Lake Erie Crushers in Avon, Ohio or the Lake County Captains in Eastlake.
6. Summer Concert Series – The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame features a FREE summer concert series in the plaza. Visit the museum and stick around for a concert. Check here for details.
7. Fairs and Art Shows – I learned to appreciate a good craft and art show at a young age, making my first debut at the age of 17 selling patchwork purses and hemp necklaces. Craft and art festivals are a great way to meet interesting artists and enjoy good company in the sun, many of them also have live music.
